What is Basswood?

The American basswood is a tree that is commonly found in Quebec, including in cities, particularly in parks and even along sidewalks. You have probably already seen it! Its small yellow flowers are very fragrant and bloom at the end of June. It is therefore possible in early summer to smell their sweet scent during a walk.

What does basswood taste like?

This yellow infusion is reminiscent of the scent of wild daisies. A mix of flavours between herbal notes, wildflowers and jasmine. Infuse with gentle heat (85°C) to avoid the development of bitterness.

Where to use it?

In infusion! Basswood flowers are used to make excellent herbal teas, known for their calming and soothing properties, ideal for promoting relaxation.

In addition, they can be used in the kitchen, being a very versatile ingredient. It is possible to reduce them to powder with a mortar, then sprinkle them in your dishes according to your creativity.

For example, can be added as a flavouring to local recipes. See baked apples in maple syrup (click here for the recipe). Some also incorporate it when preparing currant jelly.

It is also possible to add a handful of dried linden flowers to your bath to obtain a calming and soothing effect.
