Monarda fistulosa, known as Wild bergamot, also known as bee balm, is a native perennial to Quebec that brightens gardens with its beautiful pink or lavender flowers. It is a highly fragrant plant that emits a bergamot scent.
What does wild bergamot taste like?
The nectar-filled flowers are imbued with a powerful peppery, citric and slightly minty aroma, hence the name wild bergamot. Its flavour is also camphorated and fresh, evoking oregano and marjoram, with floral and sweet nuances.
How to use wild bergamot?
Its flowers and leaves, both with a delicate aroma, are edible. They are generally enjoyed in herbal teas, where they release their subtle flavors and beneficial properties. Dried flowers can also be used to make potpourri and homemade cosmetics.
Not recommended for pregnant women and children under 5 years old.
