What is mugwort?

Of European origin, artemisia grows widely in North America and is considered an invasive species. It is commonly found in the meadows of Quebec (harvested here), among other wild herbs.

What does mugwort taste like?

Being very aromatic, some call it the herb of a hundred tastes. Its flavor is at once bitter, sweet and slightly spicy.

How to use mugwort?

This plant is commonly grown in Japan, in the vegetable garden as an everyday herb. It is a popular herb in Mochi rice balls to add flavor and color. Its leaves can be eaten raw or cooked and it is also used as a substitute for tea. In gastronomy, this plant is mainly used when there is a presence of fatty foods.

It can be infused into various broths and stews. In short, it pairs well with a wide range of flavors! Finally, it was once used to flavor beer and to kill bacteria that were harmful to drinking. And this was long before hops became popular.

Not only is it good for your health, it also works well as a natural and versatile insecticide. In fact, you can make a spray with the infusion or simply use the plant as is to repel insects.

Natural and palatable remedy

Mugwort helps combat my cold side with sore throat, in cold weather, I infuse it every morning. Also combines with other herbal teas and natural health-promoting products.

My new favorite

I never had the mugwort as tea, but I liked it very much. As it's caffeine free, I can have them with dinner.
In Japan, we pick the young mugwort leaves in early spring and put them in Mochi.
If you have the grains to sell, I'd like to plant mugworts in my garden here in Canada.
